The Different Types of Motorcycles

The most exciting time for any begginner is when they are going to buy their first bike. The first thing you need to know is that there are several different types of motorcycles. The different types of motorcycles are: dual purpose, dirt bikes and street bikes.

Lets start with the street bikes. ( made for the road )

Cruiser: One example of a cruiser is a Harley Davidson. These motorcycles have a riding position with the hands up and the foot down so you stay in a erect position. This are ussually really big and heavy and have a V twin engine. They are comfortable at low speeds and they have low end torque so you dont have to shift so frequently.

Touring and Sport touring: These motorcycles are the most comfortable ones. They have big tanks and are made for long trips. They also have a nice wind protection a big storage. Its the ideal motorcycle for a long trip in the road.

Scooter: They are known because they are automatic and they ussually have storage under the seat. They also have a low displacement engine. The only scooters that have a big engine are the Maxi scooters.

Standard: They are know for the upright riding position, their flexibility and low cost. This bikes have a moderate engines and they are called naked bikes because they aren´t fully faired.

Sport Bike: They are known as a crotch rocket. These motorcycle are known for their speed, braking power and their superb cornering. This motorcycles aren´t recomended for beginners because they are just to fast for someone that is just learning to ride. Another problem is that if its your first motorcycle you will probably fall at least once or forget to put the stand down so the motorycle gets in the floor.

Now the Dirt Motorcycles. ( Dirt only )

This motorcycles are used only on the dirt. They don´t have the things needed for a legal motorcycle in the street such as turning lights. They are perfect if you have a place to go so that you can use them such as a farm or at a trip. They are also used in motor sports such as motocross, rallies, trials and track racing.

At last the Double Purpose type. ( street and dirt )

This motorcycles are arguably the most flexible motorcycles because they can ride both in the street and dirt. They are perfect for someone that rides in the street but has also to explore places outside of it. They are really good at roads in a bad condition.

Some tips when riding that help more than you think!

The first time you ride in traffic can be a nerve racking experience. There are many things that you can make to feel more secure and prevent possible accidents. Here is the list of some tips that have helped me alot in my riding!

1.) Look up!
Many new riders at the beggining tend to ride with their sight down or looking at the instruments, this is a terrible mistake because you don´t see what may come ahead. You have to look to the horizon.

2.) Look ahead of the curve!
I know this sounds like it wont help but it really helps in the twisties. The reason is that we tend to go wehere we look. One example of this is target fixation, if u look to the right while driving your motorcycle tend to go towards the right.

3.) Cover the brakes.
It is a good idea to always have 2  fingers or more over the brakes, this could get you out of trouble! The reason this is a good habit is that you are always ready to brake.

4.) Be noticed.
Most of the times that a cager hits a motorcycle its because they dont see them! So its a good idea to get some high-viz clothes or something that stands out.

5.) Scan the Battlefield.
The road is a battlefield so you need to scan for possible dangers. You always need an escape route just in case. You have to predict what could happen. Also check the road for imperfections.

6.) Wear protection
gear will give you confidence and protect you.
